The Whale Museum

Since 1987, FEMM volunteers have been collected specimens of marine mammals that washed ashore. This material includes tissues, teeth, skeletons and parasites. Part of this material is now under exhibition in the Whale Museum that was inaugurated in May 2004 in Salinas ( province of Guayas ). In this museum the visitors, besides receiving information about the species that live in Ecuadorian waters, can observe, amongst others, the skeleton of a 12 m long humpback whale, skulls of different species including the sperm whale, dolphins preserved in formalin, and other specimens of educational and scientific interest.

The museum is open to the public from 10:00 to 17:00 hours. The entrance is free but visitors need to make an appointment previously.

The address of the museum is:

Gral. Enríquez Gallo (Av. Segunda – Second Avenue )
